What Is Estate Planning?

Estate planning is best described as an umbrella that covers documents that direct how you want to be treated at the end of your life and how you want your assets distributed. These documents may include a Will, Durable Power of Attorney, and Health Care Directive.  Estate planning can be simple or more complicated. If your assets are likely to exceed the State estate tax exemption amount then other types of documents may be recommended. If you have special needs within your family, yet other documents may be suggested.
